Pool Safety Guide for Kids

Here are key tips to keep your kids safe around the pool in Wollongong:

1. Install a Fence

NSW law requires all pools to be surrounded by a fence at least 1.2 metres high, with self-closing and self-latching gates. Make sure your fence meets these standards and is regularly checked for any gaps or damage.

2. Use a Pool Cover

A strong pool cover ensures safety when the pool is not in use. It helps prevent accidental falls and also keeps leaves and dirt out of the water.

3. Always Supervise

Never leave children alone near the pool, even for a few seconds. Active adult supervision is the most effective way to prevent accidents.

4. Water Safety knowledge

Introduce basic swimming and safety skills as early as possible. Enrol your kids in swimming lessons and teach them to never go near the water without an adult.

5. Keep Rescue Tools

Always have a life ring, rescue hook, or floatation device nearby. These can make all the difference in an emergency situation.
